Playing Field

The Playing Field is a valued asset of the community that has been enjoyed by the local community for several generations.

At some point in the past, the Napper Charity field in Looke Lane (currently the allotments) was used as by local children to play football, before the current ground in Puncknowle became available in the 1960’s.  The land where the playing field now sits had been acquired by West Dorset District Council around 1951, after which some of the land was subsequently sold for development to the West Dorset Housing Association. The current site was held on lease from West Dorset District Council until they transferred ownership to Puncknowle and Swyre Parish Council in 2004 for the sum of £500.

The Parish Council manage the playing field via their Playing Field Committee who oversee the site at least once a week.  A safety inspection is carried out quarterly by independent safety expert, and repairs and maintenance are organised by the Parish Council. Cleaning, clearing overgrowth and repainting are organised by the members of the Playing Field Committee. The more hands the better, and residents are encouraged to join in these activities which are advertised every few months, so that we can preserve and treasure this great community asset.

If you have any comments or suggestions, or would like to volunteer for these activities, please contact the Clerk.
